Origin: Nominate race occurs on island of Curacao, Netherlands Antilles; introduced to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; other sub-species occur in Panama and throughout much of northern South America north of the Amazon, and islands off coast of Venezuela.
Status: Common, mainly in lowlands, in a variety of habitats, in some regions benefiting from forest clearance.
Aviculture: Formerly common; now uncommon because within its range only Guyana exports birds; limited breeding.
